Are mobile signal boosters legal?

Only certified mobile signal boosters are legal. The communications regulator here in Ireland, Comreg, has created a list of legal devices. Here is the list of legal mobile phone signal boosters for Ireland:

https://www.comreg.ie/media/2018/10/Manufacturers-List.pdf

You can read more about mobile signal boosters on the Comreg website here.

Any manufacturer not on this list are illegal and will be blocked at customs coming into the country. Comreg confiscates many of these devices each year because they are producing “noise” on the operators network, and consequently polluting the mobile spectrum for everyone else on the network.

Be careful of websites pretending to be legal, saying they are CE marked or Comreg approved.    These websites have slick marketing teams to make them appear as Irish as possible, but their products are all shipped in from “the far east” , and are all illegal.

How does a mobile phone signal booster work?

At its heart, a mobile signal booster is quite simple. It receives the mobile signal from outside, usually up on your roof, amplifies this signal, and then sends it around on the inside of your building. It amplifies all operators at the same time. It also amplifies all services, GSM, 3G , 4G and in some cases even 5G(at 700MHz). Once the cables are installed, you simply plug the booster in and your done. No need to connect to the internet, no extra bills.

What are the advantages of a mobile phone signal booster.

  • One time payment. (You own the equipment and no further costs)
  • Boosts all operators (Vodafone, Three, Eir)
  • Boosts all services (3G, 4G and in some cases 5G)
  • Straight forward installation.
