I’m living in a poor 3G signal area, what can I do?

20 Feb 2013

Here is the problem! The walls of your house are a prime culprit for blocking signal, along with the distance from the operators mast, trees and hills and even double-glazed K-glass windows.

In this guide, we will explore some steps you can take to boost your 3G signal.

You can purchase an indoor repeater

Repeaters are the cheapest and only solution to enhance the 3G signal for all operators. No matter if your on Vodafone, O2, EE or orange, all operators 3G signals get amplified.
You can buy the StellaHome repeater here, which is easy to install and will provide 3G coverage throughout you house.
Other benefits to repeaters are:

  • You own the device. (unlike other solutions which you rent)
  • Amplifies all operators.
  • No broadband connection required.
  • Amplifies 2G voice as well. (unlike all other solutions available)

You can use Vodafones Sure signal device

This solution only works for Vodofone customers and requires a broadband connection to function. However, it is reasonably priced even if you do only rent it from Vodafone.
This solution does NOT work for 2G voice however (GSM).

Nextivity router

This solution is considerably more expensive. However it works, and you don’t need a broadband solution either. Again, it does not amplify the GSM voice signal.

So, if you are living in a poor 3G signal area then it is not the end of the world. As you can see from the above there are things you can do to improve your 3G signal.
